Illinois Squash

Single Image
VEGETABLES / SQUASH
C.-ARGYROSPERMA
Cucurbita argyrosperma, cushaw. Supposedly grown by friends of Abraham Lincoln's parents. When the Lincolns moved from Kentucky to Indiana in 1816, they brought seeds from the cushaw squash with them, and then also on to Illinois in 1830. Long, white 15-30+lb. fruits with large curved necks, a bulbous end, and occasionally some light, pale green striping near the ends. Pale yellow flesh has mild but pleasant flavor. Long, strong, pest resistant vines. I found it well adapted to growing in my garden.
