Rat's Tail

Single Image
VEGETABLES / RADISH
SUMMER
Grown for its edible immature seed pods. Plants are quick bolting and produce pods with very long, sinuous tails. Pods range in color from purple-green to solid purple. Pods are moderately pungent and become more so with age. Pods remain tender and non-fibrous even when larger but are best harvested when less than 6" long. Plants do not form swollen roots. Attractive flowers are white with violet veins and a violet tinge at petal margins. Plants are highly branched and somewhat unruly, becoming tangled as they set pods. This radish came to SSE through an Exchange lister who purchased the variety from Pinetree Garden Seeds of Maine. SSE Accession # 118625
