Thorburn's Terra-Cotta

VEGETABLES / TOMATO
OTHER-COLORED
75 days. Indeterminate. Flavor-packed fruits are a distinctive amber brown color! When sliced, the remarkable interior exhibits a brilliant blend of orange-pink flesh surrounding a green seed mass. Regular leaf plants yield oblate shaped fruits that feature a nicely balanced sweet and tangy flavor. A heavy midsummer producer that stops producing when colder weather kicks in. This striking variety was saved from the brink of extinction by seed preservationist and food historian Dr. William Woys Weaver. Dr. Weaver obtained the seeds of this heirloom from a lecture participant in Salem, New Jersey in 1993, one hundred years after the variety was first introduced in 1893 by J.M. Thorburn & Company of New York. Thorburn’s 1893 full-color catalog featured this rare beauty. A great choice for fresh eating, slicing, and for making orange colored sauces.
