Offenham

Single Image
VEGETABLES / CABBAGE
Heads conical, green. Planting has quite a bit of variability but this is not surprising given the variety dates back to the 1800s. Medium-sized heads, intermediate to loose. Pale green heart. Heads 7-10" long, 4-7" in diameter. Outer leaves range from blue-green to dark green to green. Plants open, 14-18" tall and 17-27" in diameter. Early to mid-season maturing. Acquired by SSE in 2002 from Bountiful Gardens (CV Bou) who suggest it dates back to 1897. SSE suspects that this accession is an example of the variety of the same name discussed by author Christopher Stocks in the book "Forgotten Fruits" (pub. 2008). Stocks stated the 'Offenham' cabbage was raised in England "by James Myatt around 1897 in the village of Offenham, near Evesham in Worcestershire." SSE Accession # 106778
