VEGETABLES / PEA
SHELLING
This shelling pea is slightly variable, though most plants have an unusual plant architecture with small leaflets and small tendrils. The leaf petioles are at 45 degree angle with the stem and come out at equal intervals. The pods are small, green, and slightly curved with 4-6 small peas. They average 2-2.5" long and 0.5" wide. The other plants are taller with larger pods and are lacking the unique architecture of the main type. Most plants produce one pod/peduncle. The flowers stay closed and do not open up fully like other peas. The eating qualities are not great- the peas are rather dry and starchy and slightly astringent. During the 2021 growout at Heritage Farm this variety had medium-low productivity. Late maturing. SSE Accession # 115957
