VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-BUSH
Half-runner/bush bean. Plants send a short runner, which will climb if given the option, but mostly a bush type and grows well without support. Green stems and leaves. White flowers. Pods green when flat, and yellow at shelling stage. Pods are pear-shaped in cross-section, straight, with medium, downward curving beaks. Mature pods 3.75-5" long, 0.5-0.6" wide. Not a snap bean. Easy to shell, with good texture, slightly sweet, good flavor as a shelling bean. 4-6 seeds per pod. Seeds tan-brown. Dry beans have a mild nutty flavor and excellent, creamy texture. Mid-season maturity when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. Dr. James Wolfe (TN WO J) offered and described this bean in the 1997 SSE Yearbook Exchange as an heirloom from the Pearson family of Hancock County, TN which he received from Rhoda Pearson of Rogersville, Tennessee. Seeds were donated to SSE by Charlie Baker (MS BA C) who requested the variety in 1994 from Dr. Wolfe. SSE Accession # 104473
