Looseleaf. Red-green leaves. Moderately undulating, toothed leaf margins. Medium-sized plants reach 6-8" tall, 12-14" in diameter at market maturity. Largest leaves 6-8" long, 7-8" wide. Crisp, tender leaves with almost no bitterness. Slightly sweet. Average time to bolting when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. White seeds. Acquired by SSE from the late Mary Schultz (WA SC M) in the mid 1990s. Schultz obtained the lettuce from the Abundant Life Seed Foundation (CV Abu) which began offering it in their 1996 catalog. Originally given to CV Abu by John Ryan, who remembered it in his grandmother?s garden as a child. This variety likely dates to at least the early 1920s. SSE Accession # 112253
