VEGETABLES / LIMA-BEAN
POLE
Indeterminate pole lima. Plants have white flowers and straight pods measuring 2.15-2.8 inches long and 0.6-0.8 inches wide. Shattering pods. Seeds smaller with a tan base color and maroon stripe pattern. Reverse pattern common where the seeds are red with tan specks. Standard flavor. Tends to be hard seeded. Very productive and later maturing when grown in 2016 at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE in 2001 by Terry Sipple (OH SI T2) who received it in 1983 from Russ Crow (IL CR R). Russ originally received the lima in 1980 from SSE member Ernie P. Griggs of Oak Ridge, TN. Griggs did not know a name for the lima, but indicated it was an old variety. Satellite images taken at the time by NASA of the Jovian moon system inspired Russ Crow to name it 'Celeste'. SSE Accession # 130037
