Single Image
VEGETABLES / CARROT
A staff favorite for taste in 2015! Oxheart type. Short, stubby roots are wide at the shoulder with a strong taper. Medium orange with slight green coloration at the shoulders. Smooth surface with no forking or splitting of roots. Distinct, pale orange inner core has a white margin. Dark green foliage. Market mature roots measure 2-4" long by 1-1.6" wide and weigh 1-2.5oz. Raw carrots have excellent flavor and texture, especially after a freeze. Sweet and juicy with an earthy flavor. Slightly bitter. Crunchy and not fibrous. Cooked carrots are sweet with mild flavor. (aka Guerande) Acquired by SSE from Redwood City Seed company. This variety is an historic commercial variety introduced from France in 1884 by seedsmen W. Atlee Burpee as well as James J.H. Gregory.
