VEGETABLES / MELON
Small, greenish-yellow, lightly netted melon with a elliptical shape. Fruit 5-7 inches long, 4-5 inches wide, and 2-3 pounds at market maturity. Fruit abscise easily from the vine at market maturity. Salmon colored flesh with a thin, light green rind. Very good, complex, floral flavor. Good texture. Juicy. Highly susceptible to splitting. Very productive. Early to mid-season maturing. Acquired by SSE in 1995 from Stan Heymann (CA HE S), who got the seed from CV Abu. This variety was developed at the Pennsylvania Agricultural Experiment Station in 1955. It resulted from crosses between Golden Gopher and an unnamed strain. This melon was an All America Selections medal winner in 1955. It appears to have been dropped from the commercial seed market in 1987. SSE Accession # 113229
