Pole/snap bean. Beans are juicy, tender and slightly sweet. Immature pods green with purple blush. Weak to moderate suture string. Mature pods yellow with purple dashes and blush. Shelling (horticultural beans) have a dense, meaty texture with good flavor. Pods curved with a figure-eight cross section and a long downward curving beak. Pods 6-9" long by 0.5" wide. 7-9 seed per pod. Dry pods are shattering. Seeds are long and narrow and a dark tan/gray color with black stripes. Plants were vigorous climbers when grown in 2014 at Heritage Farm. Leaves and stems dark green. Flowers purple. Intermediate productivity and mid-season maturity when grown in 2014 at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE by Gretchen Grosnick (WI GR G). She got the bean from a friend who indicated this variety has a "100+ year history" from Pennsylvania to Oklahoma to Iowa to Wisconsin.
