VEGETABLES / TOMATO
RED
74 days, Det., red fruited strain. Fruits are about 170 g each, tri-locular with seeds easily removed by scooping them out. Mildly acid flavor; typical globe shape; notably uniform. This Canadian variety was developed about 50 years ago by Roger Doucet, under the auspices of the Quebec Provincial Government (before the legal change which stopped Quebec's plant breeding program). Though excelled in cold tolerance and earliness by some of Mr. Doucet's other introductions, the Usabec is a decent market variety for much of the U.S.A, lower Quebec and lower Ontario.
