Market mature fruit is straight and long with moderate ribbing, dark green skin with pale green stripes or subtle speckles, black spines. Seed mature fruit is brown with grey undertones and an overall russet crackling pattern, avgs 6" long, 3.4" wide. Crunchy flesh, unique flavor with floral aroma, not bitter. Best eaten around 2-5" long, under 2" wide, before skin begins to turn yellow at blossom end. Donated to SSE by Robert Bruns (IN BR R) who obtained the variety from the USDA (PI 504569). Originally from the Vavilov Institute, Russia (VIR 1418). The USDA's GRIN database states this accession was originally collected in 1986 in India and was donated to the USDA by the Vavilov Institute. SSE Accession # 109413
