Everhart

VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-POLE
This variety has been stewarded by several generations of the Everhart (Eberhardt) family. Family lore credits Balthazar Eberhardt with bringing the beans to the American colonies in the 1700s when he emigrated from Germany. He settled in Virginia, but later generations have also stewarded the beans in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and in Hawkins & Greene Counties in Tennessee. Family descendant and recent long-term steward, Billy Robinette, has grown the beans since about 1960. In 2013 he shared seeds with a distant cousin, Joyce Metcalf of Pleasantville, Iowa. Joyce and her husband Craig decided to donate this variety to SSE in 2014. SSE Accession # 132356
