HEAD
Butterhead. Forms a moderately well-defined head. Dark green leaves with attractive red speckling. Intensity of red speckling somewhat variable, depending upon environmental conditions. Plants reach 7-9" tall and 14-18" wide at market maturity. Largest leaves 9-11" long by 5-7" wide. Good texture; tender, crisp, and buttery. Standard flavor; not very sweet, slightly bitter. Average time to bolting when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. White seeds. Donated to SSE in the early 1980s by Mark Reusser (ONT RE M) who received the seeds from his father, James. James obtained it from Urias Martin of Waterloo County, Ontario where it was a common Mennonite variety. SSE Accession # 111452
