Pole bean. Can be used as a snap and shelling bean. Pods mature from green with red dashes/stripes to yellow with red dashes/stripes. Dry pods are leathery. Suture string present. Immature pods slightly curved with a long beak. Pods measure 3-4.25" long and 0.3-0.5" wide. 4-9 seeds per pod. Seeds cream colored base with light brown or tan mottling and dark yellow/orange ring around the hilum. Donor confirms that a considerable difference in seed size is normal. Larger seeds are about 1.5 times larger and generally darker colored. The larger sized seeds make up less than 1%. High productivity when grown in 2012 at Heritage Farm. This variety was given to SSE by John Inabnitt (KY IN J) who received it from Theodore Meece of Poplarville, Kentucky. Theodore indicated the beans were brought to Pulaski County, KY from Clarksville, Arkansas circa 1910 by Iby and Minnie Snell, who were returning home to Kentucky from working in the Arkansas timber. Snell descendants and other local families in Kentucky, continued to grow and preserve the variety. Used by the family as a snap bean and a shuck bean. SSE Accession # 105580
