VEGETABLES / COWPEA
Small, round, cream-colored seeds. Standard flavor, good texture. Pods are short, green, and straight. Pods measure 3.5-4.5" long and contain 8-10 seeds. Each peduncle bears 2-3 erect pods born in the upper part of the leaf canopy. Very light violet flowers. Plants are strongly sprawling. Moderately productive when grown in 2016 at Heritage Farm. Medium to long season. Donated to SSE in 1988 by Herbert Probst of Findlay, OH. Mr. Probst's donation letter stated: "My mother's ancestors had a small bean that was possibly brought from the old country (Switzerland or France) over 125 years ago to northwest Ohio. I have heard the name Finger Beans, or the Swiss dialect name is called "Gabeli", or translated to English would be Clothes Pin." SSE Accession # 108829
