Eckendorfer Riesen Gelb

This is a yellow-orange mangel type root. It is large and narrow elliptic in shape. The flesh is white with white concentric rings. They have a short taproot and semi-smooth skin. Roots 2.5-4.5" long and 1.5-3" wide. The lower portion of the root has lateral root hairs. The flavor is quite bland and on the bitter side, and the texture is watery. This accession matches the description of Eckendorfer Yellow listed in Hukel's Seeds 1913. SSE acquired this accession from the Leibniz-Institut für Pflzanzengenetik und Kulturpflanzenforschung (IPK gene bank) in Gatersleben, Germany during the 1990s. SSE Accession # 106405
