Salvaterra's Select

Red plum tomato. A wonderful tasting paste tomato that is tangy, sweet, and meaty. Some fasciated, heart-shaped fruit. 2.5-3.75 inches long and wide and 7-11.5 ounces. Fruit in clusters of 4-5. Indeterminate, regular leaf. Midseason maturing. Above average productivity when grown in 2016 at Heritage Farm. BRIX reading 6.0 When Charles Salvaterra of Macungie, Pennsylvania donated this tomato variety to SSE in 2014, he had been stewarding it for over 40 years. Charles received the variety circa 1983 from his wife’s grandfather, Joseph Gennaro (d. 1985) of Hazelton, PA. Charles estimates that Joseph maintained the variety for approximately 30 years and that Joseph obtained seeds at some point in the 1950s from his barber, Danny Matteo, also of Hazleton.
