Cottontail

Appeared in 2013. Bears pods until frost, and ripens seed very late. Dry pods are 7-8"x1/2"x3/8", seeds 1/2"x5/16"x3/16" and uniform size. Brownish tan often with a white rump, some mostly white, highly variable. Named after the critters that ate all the vines in 2016. Extremely productive even under a hickory tree, right up until frost. In 2014, 367 ripe and additional immature seeds, 60/oz, from about 5 plants in part shade, planted late. In 2019 10 plants produced at least 400 seeds with 5 hours' sun but only half ripened (same with the other late varieties). 140+ days one year. Vine 8'+. Can send 10 to 25 2024 or earlier seed. 3-5 year old seed germinated 80%.
