Gris de Printemps

Plants grow 3-4' tall. Straight, green pods become round as they mature. Very fibrous pods; bitter shelling peas. Purple flowers and stipule ring. Mature pods measure 1.7-2.5" long by 0.4-0.5" wide. Shattering dry pods. Seeds per pod highly variable; ranges from 2-8. Grey, slightly wrinkled, medium-sized seeds with purple speckling. About 5% of seeds are solid purple. Black hilum. Dry peas have a meaty, tannic flavor and firm texture. Early maturing. Average productivity when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. Acquired by SSE from Will Bonsall (ME BO W); from the UK.
