Roselle, Thai Red

Single Image
OTHER / MISC-OTHERS
Hibiscus sabdariffa. This variety is called Thai Red and is a variety well suited to Northern cultivation. I believe it will produce anywhere okra can be grown. In the Hispanic world this is known as Jamaica (pronounced hah-my-kah). Extremely heat resistant and hardy. Exceedingly useful! Calyxes are used to make tea (think "Red Zinger Tea"), "juice," jelly and jam. Plants reach about 7' in my garden, though they can get taller. I know people who have grown this as far North as Connecticut! Plants are beautiful and could be used in a flower garden. Flowers are light yellow hibiscus type and attractive. Foliage is green with red stems and veins. http://seedsavingnetwork.proboards.com/thread/176/roselle-jamaica-great-potential-gardeners
