VEGETABLES / BEAN
SNAP-POLE
Pole habit snap bean. Also palatable when cooked, enjoyed by SSE staff. Strongly climbing plants have white flowers and dark green leaves. Strongly constricted bright green pods mature to pale yellow with pink stripes and dashes. Fully expanded pods measure 5.8-5.2" long and 0.7" wide. Pods have 6-8 seeds. Seeds are half white and half red-purple. Pigmentation differences occur around the eye and around the bean uniformly. Late maturing and average productivity when grown in 2017 at Heritage Farm. This variety was given to Wilma Gayheart by her father, Ransom Stephens. He first received seeds of this variety in the late 1930s from his wife's uncle, Alex Bailey, near Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Wilma stated that her family typically plants the beans in corn, after the corn plants are 4-5" tall. Donated to SSE in 2003 by Wilma Gayheart of Tiro, Ohio. SSE Accession # 105729
