Dark red garden beet. Round to elliptic roots measure 2-3.5 inches long, 2-3 inches wide, and weigh 4-7 ounces. Roots grow mostly below the soil surface. Flesh is purple with white concentric rings. Leaves are green with purple petioles and veins. BRIX reading 10.1. Highly rated in 2015 SSE beet taste evaluation. Moderately sweet with a strong, earthy flavor. Donated to SSE by Will Bonsall (ME BO W) who originally requested it from the National Center for Genetic Resources Preservation, NCGRP (formerly called the NSSL). SSE Accession # 106335
