VEGETABLES / BEAN
SNAP-POLE
Pole bean, bushy at the base, with a strong twining tendency. White flowers. Green flat pods become pale yellow at maturity. Straight, flat pods have a long beak. Slight constriction between seeds. Mature pods average 5" long and 0.50" wide. Suture string present. Snap bean. Also very good as a shelling (horticultural) bean, with a sweet flavor and smooth, moist flesh. Easy to shell. High productivity. Leathery dry pods average 5-7 seeds per pod. Navy bean with standard flavor and texture. Late maturing. This variety was donated to SSE in 2004 by Carol Vest. Carol first got seeds in about 1985 from her friend Clovis (Radford) Richards (1914-2009). It was grown by Clovis' grandmother Webb in Franklin County, Virginia since at least 1920 and likely earlier. Carol uses the variety for canned green beans. SSE Accession # 105717
