Broughton Astley Polish

VEGETABLES / BEAN
SNAP-POLE
Early pole snap bean grown for 40 years in Broughton Astley UK, thought to be from Poland. Tolerates drought and shade but prefers cooler wetter climate. Fat dark purple on green mottled streaky pod 3.5"x3/8" round. Seeds 1/2x3/8x5/16", 50/oz. First bean here to reach snap stage even in half-shade, then matures seed mid-season to late. Streaks range from medium to nearly black purple or maroon, on pinkish tan, uniform in size and shape. Very pretty. Similar to Falsetti (Italian), listed in Yearbook as a dry pole bean and by MI SC R as a snap bean, but the B. A. seeds are smaller, the streaks are lighter, and the pods have less purple. Same shape pods and seeds. Both said to be edible as snap when very young but the mature pods are tough and leathery. Will send at least 10 seeds from 2019 or 2022 or 2023. 5 year seed germinated 100%.
