Amaranthus cruentus. This variety has heavy, purple terminal inflorescences and red-purple stems. Occasionally a plant will have marbled green and red inflorescences. The leaves are green with puple veins and petioles. They develop a purple blush as they mature. This variety grows 5-6.5 ft tall and is prone to lodging. It is white seeded. SSE requested and received this variety in 2001 from member Thumbs Heath (CO HE T) who began sharing it in the 1994 SSE Yearbook Exchange. SSE Accession # 100098
