SNAP-POLE
Pole/snap bean. Immature and mature pods solid purple. Snap bean is juicy, sweet, and crunchy. Excellent flavor and texture. Round pods are curved with a downward curved beak medium in length. Weak suture string. Shelling (horticultural) and dry beans are grainy, starchy and dry with a surprisingly buttery taste. Leaves are dark green with purple veining and stems almost solid purple. Flowers dark purple-pink. Pods 6-8" long and about 0.5"wide. 7-10 seeds per pod. Dry pods are shattering. Intermediate vigor, high productivity and early to mid-season maturity when grown in 2014 at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE by Barbara Locke, who received the beans in 1981 from a friend named Ruby Smith, while living in Huntsville, Alabama. Ruby had received the beans 50 years earlier from her own grandmother who grew it all her gardening days. SSE Accession # 131768
