Plant avgs 6.2' tall with green stems, avg of 1 tiller per plant. Tassels have some secondary branching, avg 18.5" long. Long, thin cylindrical-conical ears with cobs colored white, brown, or red/purple. Ears have avg 8-12 rows with mostly regular row pattern. Ears avg 8.5" long, 1.5" wide. Ear set avgs 1-2 per plant. Kernel is flint/flour type with rounded top, standard size. Kernels are colored with a red, black-deep cherry, or orange-red tinge over yellow endosperm. Each ear has one uniform kernel color. 40% stalk lodging, 5% root lodging when grown in 2011. Given to SSE by Glenn Drowns (IA DR G) who received this variety from the Oliver Kelley Farm near Elk River, Minnesota. The farm is a National Historic Landmark and a working 1860s living history farm. SSE Accession # 108511
