DRY-POLE
Pole, dry bean. Seeds are dark brown-red; oval to rhomboid in shape. Immature pods green; pubescent; slightly curved. Non-edible pods. Fully expanded pods 4-6" long; 0.4-0.5" wide. Mature pods yellow with a red blush. Shelling beans are very creamy, dense, and smooth and have a sweet earthy flavor. Dry beans have a smoky and sweet BBQ sauce flavor. Thick skin. Dry pods contract around seeds; slight tendency to shatter. 5-9 seeds per pod. Non-pigmented plants. White flowers. Average productivity; mid-season maturing when grown in 2014 at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE in 2002 by Bob Jenkins (IN JE B) who received the variety from a gardening friend. Jenkins described this bean as one which has been growing in east central Kentucky for over 100 years. SSE Accession # 105329
