VEGETABLES / TOMATO
ORANGE-YELLOW
Also known as 'Yellow Peach', 'Garden Peach' is an old commercial heirloom tomato variety. Its vigorous, regular leaf plants produce globe-shaped fruits that weigh from one to three ounces each, are a beautiful yellow color, and exhibit a characteristic pubescence (fuzziness) on their surface; much like a peach. The fruits store well and have a good, slightly sweet, mild flavor. The origin of peach tomatoes is credited to the plant breeding work of Elbert S. Carman, owner and editor of The Rural New-Yorker magazine. He introduced it in 1890 under the name of 'White Peach'. Seed companies immediately began listing the novelty under various synonyms and by the early 1900s, the efforts of their own breeding work had resulted in several new "peach-type" varieties.
