Maule's Philadelphia Butter

Butterhead. Moderate to well-developed head. Green, round leaves develop slight red tinge in response to environmental conditions. Moderate leaf blade blistering and slight undulation. Plants average 6" tall and 12" in diameter. Largest leaves average 5.7" long by 6.5" wide. Excellent texture. Standard flavor. Slightly sweet, no bitterness. Thick, waxy leaves, but not overly tough. Early maturing. Given to SSE by William Woys Weaver (PA WE W) who obtained it from the USDA. Introduced by Maule Seed Co. in the 1870s. SSE Accession # 112320
