Paraguayan kumanda

Single Image
VEGETABLES / COWPEA
Kumanda pyta'i. Small red cowpea. The most commonly eaten legume in the Paraguayan countryside. Vigorous growth on semi-vining type plant. The plant is much bigger on fertile soils than I remember it being in Paraguay. It will climb a bit if you give it something to climb or might cover neighboring plants. Would make a good summer cover crop too. Kumanda "San Francisco" small tan colored cowpea with brown mottles similar to a pinto bean in coloration. Not as productive as kumanda pyta'i but the Paraguayans say this one tastes better. Both varieties were acquired from TN KO A in 2016 who brought this cowpea back from Paraguay. Seed offered was grown in Texas in 2022 and 2021.
