Grandpa's

Single Image
VEGETABLES / OKRA
Short plants with highly dissected leaves bear dark green pods. Pods are easy to see and harvest. Pods develop a red blush as they mature. Pods are downy (non-prickly) for the most part, but a few pods have some benign prickles. Medium-high productivity in 2021 planting at Heritage Farm. The pods are edible up to 5" long. This variety is very slimy, though the flavor is good. Mid season maturing. Donated to SSE by Nadine Stroud (OK ST N) who introduced this variety into the 1996 SSE Exchange. At that time, Stroud commented she had been growing the variety since the mid 1970s and had received it from grandpa J.R. Cromer who "grew this okra so long he forgot the name."
