VEGETABLES / CELERY
Highly uniform in growth and development. Semi-erect. Dense, medium green leaves. Many light green hollow petioles. Petiole's measure 0.2-0.3" in diameter, and 7.5-15" in length. Plants measure 16.1
22.0" in height and 20.9-35.4" in diameter. Strong flavor, aromatic lingering flavor. Would be good for soups and stews. Donated to SSE by Orral Craig (IL CR O) in 1990. Craig was sent a Thompson & Morgan seed packet of this variety from Bernard Stearns of Hamilton, Ontario in 1990. In his donor letter, IL CR O suggests that the variety might have been described as a Naples Celery or Celery Leaved Parsley by Fearing Burr in the 1863 publication of “Field and Garden Vegetables of America.” CV Tho offered this variety from 1989-2006, and suggest that the variety was probably first grown sometime in the 18th century and that they got their seeds from the IPK Gatersleben seed bank in Germany.
