VEGETABLES / POTATO
From Seed Savers Exchange, Heritage Farm and Curzio Caravati. Cups is referenced in Fearing Burr's 1865 book “Field and Garden Vegetables of America.” Curiously, the book describes Cups as “very healthy and productive, but better suited for agricultural purposes than the table.” This historic potato variety has small, light brown-pink tubers with russet skin. Eyes are medium depth and predominantly apical. Fairly uniform tubers are 50% elliptic, 50% oblong. Tubers can be up to 2.0” long by 1.8” wide, weighing up to 1.6 oz.SSE Accession # 128875.
I also have some from Curzio Caravati. Medium to small round tubers, white flesh, silver-pink skin, early maturity, rare variety. Originally from William Woys Weaver of Devon, PA (PA WE W) whose source was the Beamish Museum in County Durham, England, pre-1770. GREAT GARDEN POTATO! I particularly like the crop of this cultivar - most tubers are in the 2" across size, few grow to 3"
