Single Image
VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-BUSH
Dry bush bean. 4-6 seeds per pod. Seeds are white with dark maroon speckles - absolutely gorgeous! Kidney-shaped. Good flavor, smooth texture. Early maturing. Moderately productive. Pink flowers. This accession matches the description of Jacobs Cattle, Hepler's listed in The Vegetables of New York, 1928. Donated to SSE in 1981 by bean collector John Withee of Lynnfield, Massachusetts and the Wanigan Associates. Withee received the variety circa 1971 from Prof. Meader of the University of New Hampshire. According to Withee, Billy Hepler’s strain of 'Jacob’s Cattle' bean had been faithfully maintained since the 40s. The Billy Hepler Seed Company of Durham, NH offered 'Jacob’s Cattle' beans during its entire operation, 1947-1962. SSE Accession # 101050
