SHELLING
Short vines grow 6-12" tall, with several branches. Good for container growing, as staking is unnecessary. Highly productive. White flowers. Normal leaves. Straight, green pods become round. Mature pods average 2.5" long by 0.5" wide. Best used as a garden (shelling) pea. Not recommended as a soup pea. Non-shattering dry pods. Round, smooth seeds are a mix of yellow and pale green. Non-pigmented hilum. Early maturing. Donated to SSE by Dave Niswonger. Originally grown by Dave's great-grandfather, James Roberts, whose family brought the variety to Missouri when they migrated from Tennessee in about 1865. SSE Accession # 115759
