Angel Bean

Single Image
VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-POLE
Pole/ dry. Also known as the Holy Climbing bean. Roundish white seed with a distinctive dark red to brown marking near hilum that looks like a monstrance or an angel. They have a short cooking time , do not need to be soaked and have a slight smoky flavor. Some say they have a mystical origin in France where a priest buried his church relics in the garden during the first World War to protect them. He then planted plain white beans over them. When the beans were shelled he discovered patterns similar to a monstrance on the beans. At the Heritage Seed Library in Coventry, England, they call these the ‘Angel Bean’, which were traditionally eaten at Christmas. They say that this is an old German variety that would be shelled around Christmas to reveal a little angel around the hilum. 90 days, heavy producing vigorous plant will climb to 10 feet. My seed originally from IA FE S. 25 seeds per package.
