Single Image
VEGETABLES / LETTUCE
HEAD
Fairly virgorous yellow-green butterhead type lettuce that forms a well developed, large, circular and moderately solid head at maturity. In 2020, when grown at Heritage Farm, this variety matured mid season, bolted late and the plants reached 11-13 inches across and about 5 1/2 inches high. Leaves are slightly curled at the edge with moderate blistering and toothing along just the bottom of the leaf. The flavor is slightly sweet and moderately astringent with a waxy texture and a crisp juicy midrib. This accession matches the description of Grosse Blonde Paresseuse listed in The Vegetable Garden from 1885. SSE Accession # 112389
