SUMMER
Long, white, tapered root. Color is not uniform. Most are white but some have a light purple blush. Best grown in the fall. Roots are rather coarse looking with numerous lateral roots and a rough surface. White flesh is quite spicy, fibrous and woody. Bolts relatively quickly, even if fall planted. May not be well adapted to northeast Iowa. Long, semi-erect leaves with purple-green petioles. Annual. Given to SSE by Nancy Arrowsmith (AZ AR N) who obtained the variety from University Botanical Garden Romania. SSE Accession # 118763
