VEGETABLES / SORGHUM
Sweet sorghum. Brix score: 12.1. Plants reach 7-8ft tall and commonly have 3-4 tillers. Loose panicles with drooping panicle branches. Panicles are 11-14" long and resemble broomcorn but have a definite central flower stalk. Grains are difficult to thresh. Brown glumes completely cover grains. Grains are reddish-brown, medium-sized and partially starchy. Early maturing. No lodging when grown in 2024 at Heritage Farm. Visually stunning; would make an excellent addition to dried arrangements, wreaths, displays, etc. Donated to SSE by Adam Mackie (NM MA A) who acquired it from Native Seeds/SEARCH in 2002.
