VEGETABLES / SQUASH
C.-MOSCHATA
Cucurbita moschata. Fruits shaped like a butternut squash, the largest weighing 3 lbs., the skin changing from dark green to bluish gray with some tan areas late in the season, few-seeded, the flesh deep orange. Vines growing to 18' in length with dark green leaves and bristly stems. Grown by Gene Forster in 2021; he reported that squash borers did not bother the plants and that the flavor of the fruit was "noticeably sweeter" than typical butternut. SSE Accession # 119982
