Brassica napus (Siberian kale). Plain leaved. Green leaves are numerous and smooth with a spatulate shape. Raw leaves are slightly bitter with a tangy, mustard flavor. Cooked leaves are sweet, juicy, and tender with good flavor. High leaf bloom. Pale green petioles. Low growth habit, with plants reaching 12-18.5" tall and 20-28" wide. Largest leaves measure 12.5-16.5" long by 5-7" wide. Consistently bolts in first year at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE by Irene Kemper. This variety was brought to the U.S. from Germany by Irene's great-grandparents. Irene's mother grew it all her married years. SSE Accession # 111137
