Semi-savoy, green, cordate to spear-shaped leaves. Standard flavor. Semi-prostrate growth habit. Medium to long petioles. Plants reach 4-7" tall and 15-21" wide. Largest leaves 6-10" long and 4-6" wide. Moderately bolt resistant when grown in spring. May be best suited as a fall crop. Spiny seed. Acquired by SSE from Bountiful Gardens (CV Bou). Prickly seeded spinach was described by Albertus Magnus, a Catholic saint from Germany, in 1260, has been commercially available in the US since at least 1806, and was planted by Thomas Jefferson at Monticello in 1809 and 1812.
