Red Russian kale. 30+ days, Biennial, self-seeds, edible spring and fall. curly bluish green leaves ,purple stems, sweet. Biennial. Selected for Zone 5 from overwintering plants over many years. Attacked by fuzzy grey insects in mid summer, so feed those leaves to chickens or rub off the fuzz. The bugs die by October and the leaves are edible again until early or mid December. In 2026 there were no fuzzy grey bugs because of a late frost. The kale plants survived one night of 16F and in theory can take 10F. They wilt, then revive when it is above freezing for a while. I have four types of leaves, and the seeds of all of them volunteer all over the garden. 2026 seed.
