Red Leaf Grain

Grain amaranth. Dark red leaves, stems, and inflorescences. Erect, finger-like flower heads with short side branches. Plants reached 5-7.5' tall in 2016 at Heritage Farm. Flowered in late June. White seed. Attractive variety with some variation in intensity of red color between plants. Given to SSE in 2001 by Glenn Drowns (IA DR G) who received this variety from Suzanne Ashworth (CA AS S). Ashworth originally acquired it in 1980 from the Rodale Institute. SSE Accession # 100107
