Elongated roots with a white base and pink blush shoulders. They have a smooth skin surface and white flesh. Long-top, dark green spatulate leaves are numerous. Petiole color ranges from orchid purple to white. The roots grow largely above the soil line and have standard eating qualities. This accession matches the description of 'Red Tankard' described in "The Field and Garden Vegetables of America" by Fearing Burr, 1863. SSE Accession # 127685
