Dark purple round to elliptic roots. Earthy flavor. Flesh deep purple with thin pink rings. Roots measure 1.5-2.5" long, 2-3.3" wide, and weigh 2-6oz. Smooth skin, slightly rough shoulders. Variable leaf pigmentation. Roots half buried. Some plants have mostly purple leaves, but majority have a tinge of purple and dark purple petioles and leaf veins. Moderately upright leaves. Plants measure 8.3-10.5" tall. Brix 7.1. Acquired by SSE from CV Bou. This is likely the same variety introduced in 1900 by the Peter Henderson & Co. seed company of New York. SSE Accession # 106267
