Penn Yan N.Y.1791. Med. to lg. round slightly flattened, bright pink red on green background. Thin tough glossy skin. Very juicy mod. firm, fine grained white flesh, sweet sprightly aromatic. Good for eating, cider, cooking. Tree natural semi dwarf, upright round spreading, mod. vigorous. mod. to heavy productivity. Resistant to scab, and some what to insects. Begins bearing early. Ripens Oct. stores until Feb. Usually annual may become biennial. Spur type habit. Said to be short lived, but original tree produced fruit at 105 yrs. old. LQ.
